Visit Peebles - The Royal Burgh

Peebles Rugby Club (RFC)

Like all the Border Towns, Peebles is passionate about its rugby and very proud of of its players.

In 1974/75 Peebles joined the National Leagues and were placed in Division 5 East. Promotion to Division 3 came in 1989/90. The big jump came in 2001/02 to Division 2 and then to Division 1 in 2002/03. After 2 seasons in Division 1, there followed two successive drops to Premier 3 before gaining promotion back to Scottish Hydro Electric Premier 2 in 2007/08. The leagues have been reorganized twice in recent years. Demotion after a poor 2011-12 saw Peebles in the third tier in Championship B, where losing the first two games did not bode well. However new Head Coach and assistant Coach Colin Brown got the wheels back on the wagon and a 14 game winning streak followed to confirm promotion to the second tier in the RBS National League which bodes well for 2013-14.

Peebles Rugby Club history :

The earliest record available of rugby being played in Peebles was of a game in 1877 in Kingsmeadows Park and Peebles Rugby Football Club was formed in 1879. The club ceased to exist about 1900 but was re-constituted in 1923. Now, we run two and occasionally three senior teams, and have a thriving colts and youth section. Strong links have been forged with all schools in the area through our Club Development Officer.

Peebles remain in this league for 2014-15, when new coaches will take the reins.
