High Street, Peebles

Opposite the High Street entrance to School Brae stands the former bakery which was in the ownership of the Turnbull family for 7 generations - and renowned for its shortbread and ginger-bread.

On the front, a stone panel bears the emblems of the baxter's (baker's) pair of wooden peels (shovels) crossed in saltire, a scuffle (mop), two 4's, and the inscription ' God provides to a rich inheritans: 1724:WT '
