Visit Peebles - The Royal Burgh

Tweed Green

Situated between the High Street and the River Tweed, this green and attractive open space is traditionally the Common land on which the townsfolk still have the right to hang out their washing to dry.

In times gone by, there was a putting green here (the covered pavillion at the foot of School Brae was where you would hire clubs and balls).

On a summers day, it is a lovely spot in which to enjoy a picnic. It is still a centre of activity on several occasions throughout the year - noteably after the naming of the Beltane Queen,  The Three Bridges Race and on Beltane Friday where participants in the towns' fancy dress parade gather beforehand for prize giving.
